Hosea 2:5-9

5 “For their mother has ^aplayed the harlot;
She who conceived them has acted shamefully.
For she said, ‘ ^bI will go after my lovers,
Who ^cgive me my bread and my water,
My wool and my flax, my ^doil and my drink.’
6 “Therefore, behold, I will ^ehedge up ^{▼▼ So with some ancient versions; Heb your}her way with ^gthorns,
And I will build ^{▼▼ Lit her wall so that}a wall against her so that she cannot find her ⁱpaths.
7 “She will ^jpursue her lovers, but she will not overtake them;
And she will seek them, but will not find them.
Then she will say, ‘ ^kI will go back to my ^lfirst husband,
For it was ^mbetter for me then than now!’

8 “For she does ⁿnot know that it was ^oI who gave her the grain, the new wine and the oil,
And lavished on her silver and gold,
Which they ^{▼▼ Or made into the}used for Baal.
9 “Therefore, I will ^qtake back My grain at ^{▼▼ Lit its time}harvest time
And My new wine in its season.
I will also take away My wool and My flax
Given to cover her nakedness.
